Happy Birthday, U*S*A!

‎"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever."    John Adams

Our celebration, or his prediction, is off by 2 days, but it's great to see his hopes are still carried out, and we still remember to celebrate the liberation and birth of our great nation.

God Bless America!

Happy Independence Day!

John Adams was one of our greatest presidents. He was so independent minded and democratic and yet lived in Jefferson's shadow. I'm a big fan of political biography and I truly enjoyed reading "John Adams," by David Mc Cullough and I so highly recommend it. I hope everyone is able to take the 4th holiday as a long weekend and stay as cool as possible in this awful heat. Imagine living in the 18th century when there was no air conditioning! E -- also hope your DH is on the mend and improving every day. Sending good throughs your way. Jane
