(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

One of my next decisions...

What color to paint the kitchen chairs?

The options I've considered:

BM Lancaster White, like the island.  This would keep me from adding yet another color to the kitchen, but I can't help but think of one word to describe that choice:  Boring.  It doesn't seem in keeping with what I have going in the room.

Eggplant/Aubergine.  I like that color in combination with burgundy.

Multi-colored.  Not on each chair, but as in each chair a different color for a collected chair, unfitted look.  I was thinking, perhaps, eggplant, medium-dark olive,  deep gold, and a dark red.  I'm afraid this romantic idea will just look circus-like in result.

The bottom 4 colors are those I'm looking at

But at the moment, I am leaning toward using one of these colors, which are close to each other in hue and value... Benjamin Moore Green TeaSilken Moss, Urban Legend, or Bayleaf.  Like the wall color (BM Sag Harbor Gray), they hover between green and brown/tan, so I thought they could be different, without being a completely new color to add to the kitchen palette.

Green! I like the bottom color, but it probably depends on the light in your kitchen and what other colors you have in there. Will the table be painted too?

Thanks for the feedback. The table has a clear finish, which I just redid this past summer, on a pretty wood top, and stained dark red pedestal, so it stays as is.

Another vote here for a dark green. That's the first thing I thought when I saw the picture, before reading your comments. The ones on the color card look good, but it's hard to tell how they relate to the wall color. Can you get a card that's close to the wall color and then go many shades darker?
My two cents worth! But full disclosure: I rely on my decorator to make these decisions for me, or at least narrow down my choices.

Thanks for your input, too. I tried to find a darker shade of what's on the walls, but they don't make it easy. The next darker on the strip is definitely not the same-color-only-darker... and the next strips, in either direction, aren't much help either. If I put the Bayleaf up next to the wall color, the wall color looks tan, and if I try the browner ones, it turns grayish. Of course, I will have to try again in daylight.

I also feel like the chairs should be a little fun/odd, so I'm not sure I'm going for an exact match to or blend with anything.
I happen to love the red/burgendy/aubergine - I love your dark cabinetry. I think if all 4 chairs were different colors might not be good. What about picking 2 colors - paint the seat one color (in the red etc. family) and then the body of the chair a different color - perhaps in that green color you like?

I'd draw/color it out in a picture first, but it might provide the bit of fun you are looking for. A fun idea performed in a uniform way...

I like the deep red, but I'm a red person. I also think a touch of whimsy in the house will lift your spirit in the morning!
Odd one out here. I'd go with either the aubergine or a burgundy--brings out the beautiful color in the cabinets!

More input... Thanks! I picked up some paint chips in reds and purples this morning. This has been my train of thought: I'm afraid of diminishing the impact of the uniqueness of burgundy cabs by adding more burgundy pieces. Also, they are already a visually weighty part of the room, so I'm not sure they need any help. And I'm afraid that red and purple will do the same type of thing, but I'm sure still willing to consider those options. Since the 3 most recent comments, I'm thinking maybe I could do chairs that are very close in color, but not quite the same. Kind of a range from plums to reds.

An additional thing to think about though, is BM Satin Impervo oil enamel is not cheap! So more colors makes the project multiply in cost quite a bit. So I may have to choose just one and be a little less creative. ;-)
I think a dark colour on the chairs would look really good. If you go to the BM web site and check out Sag Harbour Gray, it shows you what colours work well with it. Brown Horse is one of them:

{Thanks for your lovely words about the railing my hubby and I made :-) If I'd only come up with the idea to paint the spindles to look like metal sooner, it might not have taken 5 years to get it done!}

Thanks for the link and the heads up about BM's suggestions for color combos. Brown Horse wouldn't work with the kitchen, but it gives me an idea that the browner tones above may work. I have to also keep in mind that the pedestal is a burgundy color and from one side of the kitchen, the chairs' background is the burgundy cabs, so I don't want to lose the chairs against them. Lots to consider!

I am still in total awe over that stair railing!!!

I'm going to be zero help tonight, except to say that I love the idea of painting the chairs! I'm starting to think I may have to do something like that to find the right chairs for our dining room. You'll have to pass along your chair painting tips because I KNOW you'll be done log before I am! Enjoy the rain!
Another vote for the green! I love the dark and it would probably contrast with your wall and cabinets well. Can't wait to see what you decide!

I'm late to the vote and in the minority, but I vote for the soft white of the island, then add a pretty fabric cushion to the chairs that uses all those colors. Maybe use two different fabrics, one on each side, then show each one on 2 chairs. Does that make sense? Fabric.com has a huge selection, though it's a little difficult to wade through their site.
By the way, do you have an email subscription option? I've subscribed via GFC & Linky but I tend to only read the ones I get in email. I kinda' forget to go check the others.

EggPlant!! is my vote.
Not exactly a mandate going here. :-) But that's kind of comforting, showing me there is probably a reason I can't decide! Maybe the answer is I need 2 more sets of chairs, so I can switch them out. ;-)

On my monitor Bay Leaf looks a little too grey. It's between the Silken Moss and Urban Legend. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.

Another vote for dark. Dark anything. I actually think the four colors would look the best because of the way it would bounce the eye around, given the contrast table, but while the yellow works with the others, it fights with the table, and will probably wimp out in general. I also like all the greens, but not on different chairs. You could do a nice ombre thing with the back slats or something.
