A Confession

I don't know anyone else with this aversion, but I don't really like applesauce.  I find it a little bland and with little toothsome quality (an uppity way of saying nothing solid to sink my teeth into), I'm not a fan of the texture.  Additionally, I don't like applesauce spice cake, applesauce muffins, and I don't like using applesauce instead of fat in muffins and other baked goods.  - Blah, blah, and dry.

The baby prince will eventually enjoy some of it, I'm sure.  I look forward to that, and left it unsweetened and unspiced for that reason.  We can always add cinnamon, as we wish.  We never add sugar.

But he won't eat it all.  This means that with a LOT of applesauce on hand, I needed to search out other uses... Hopefully, savory options, since I haven't liked the applesauce desserts.  I spent a lot of time searching the internet, with limited luck.

So for a lot of the rest of my apple series, I will be sharing recipes that interested me, both from internet sources and friends.  Some unique options are out there, and I am eager to try them and share them with you.  For variety's sake, I'll mix in recipes for using fresh apples, too.

I don't like applesauce, either. I don't like cooked apples, including apple pie.

They aren't my absolute favorites, and I am picky. ;-) I sure don't like them if they are mushy. And I do like them better if they have blackberries. That's a good thing about apple pie...if you add anything else, the apples step back and let the other fruit take over.
That's kind of funny. You went through all that time to make all that applesauce and you don't even like it? My father's side of the family has deep Connecticut roots (the "Nutmeg" state). So this is probably a regional thing, but have you ever tried applesauce muffins with nutmeg in addition to the cinnamon and use brown sugar instead of white?

I think I need 'things' in my muffins... Like chunks of fruit. I just am not a fan of the spice cake family of things, but thanks for the recipe hints.

I had 9 bags of apples, most only really suitable for applesauce, and I couldn't let them go to waste. I am determined to find use for the applesauce, so I'm pretty confident I'll find something that I like. Even if I don't, I have a big family here, most of whom don't share my applesauce, or even spice cake/spice bread issues. :-)
Apple sauce is very good mixed in with a pork roast and sauerkraut. Nice in the crockpot on a fall day!

Sounds good! I love sauerkraut, but never had it with pork roast or with applesauce. I am also on the hunt for crockpot recipes, so this is great! Thanks.
I love applesauce! Always have. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. It's always appreciated. I look forward to following you the rest of the month!
